Balancing the Scorecard

by Kathirasan K

"The numbers game will gradually lose its stronghold in the age of the generation Y. We need to re-think strategic management in light of the wellbeing of the very people who are behind these numbers as either orchestrators or contributors."

The prime purpose of a business or an enterprise is to either create value for its customers or/and to be profitable. In this area, the Balanced Scorecard is an excellent tool to measure and improve performance. It measures innovation and learning, process, financials and customer. However, have you wondered about the people behind the performance? How does their scorecard look like?

With the increasing correlation between people’s wellbeing and performance, it is time that we balanced the scorecard with improving and measuring people’s wellbeing. The strategies, processes and capabilities of organisations have to embedded with wellbeing strategies to sustain and promote performance. A radical and revolutionary approach would be to look at the profits, people and also our environment.

The numbers game will gradually lose its stronghold in the age of the generation Y. We need to re-think strategic management in light of the wellbeing of the very people who are behind these numbers as either orchestrators or contributors. Organisational performance is incomplete without the wellbeing of the staff. An integrative approach is what we need today in strategic thought. It is time to change the world and it starts with you.
